Waxing 101
HOW TO PREPARE:
LET IT GROW
This may be uncomfortable for those getting waxed for the first time, but resist that urge to shave! Hair must be at least ¼ of an inch long in order to wax, longer for certain hair types. This is usually around 1 to 2 weeks before your appointment.
DON’T PUT LOTION ON YOUR SKIN
On the day of your wax, don’t moisturize. Wax works better with dry, oil-free skin.
SHOWER
On the day you wax, DO shower! Wax sticks to dirt as well as hair and dead skin cells. (If you’re having a bikini service performed, we do have intimate wipes in our suite just in case).
JUST BREATHE
Loose fitting, breathable fabrics are the best things you can wear post-wax. Stay away from anything too tight, it may cause irritation.
Also, remember to breathe! It’s natural to be nervous, but it’s going to be over shortly and you’re going to love the results.
DURING YOUR WAX
All of our waxing is carried out in a private room. We are licensed, experienced wax technicians. Please ask any questions you may have – don’t worry, we have heard it all! We will help guide you through your service. Just breathe and relax. The Wax Parlor operates under a strict no double-dipping policy. (Each wax stick is dipped into the wax pot only once, thereby eliminating cross-contamination.)
If at any point you are unduly uncomfortable, please speak up. Communication is very important, and your comfort is our main concern.
Questions and Answers
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
We recommend booking every 3-4 weeks. Consistency is essential for achieving your best waxing results.
IS IT OK TO SHAVE BETWEEN WAX APPOINTMENTS?
Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner, making it less painful and easier to remove. Shaving just one time in between will undo all the benefits gained from waxing, and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair.
HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results (3-4 weeks of hairlessness, softer hair, and less hair regrowth).
WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT INGROWN HAIR?
Don’t pick at it, squeeze it, or try to tweeze it out because you will bruise or scar your skin.
Gently exfoliating in the shower with a body brush or scrub everyday helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair. We carry ingrown hair serum which helps to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hair.
IF I HAVE MY PERIOD, CAN I STILL GET A BRAZILIAN WAX?
Yes, if you are wearing a tampon. You may be more sensitive to waxing during this time of month.
WILL WAXING HURT?
It’s really not as bad as you think – We have great quality wax and we are trained to wax fast and thoroughly, communicating with you every step of the way in how to position your body, or stretch your skin to minimize pain.
